Create virtual directory in IIS Manager

You can through IIS Manager create virtual folders for your website. A virtual folder appears to be located directly under the website root directory, though it may be physically located somewhere else entirely - follow the instructions below to create a virtual folder:

Open IIS Manager, expand the tree and the node "Sites" to show all the websites. Right-click on the desired site and select "Add Virtual Directory ..."

Enter the virtual name for the folder (in this case "shared_upload") and select the physical directory. The concept is that the selected folder does not have to be physically located in the root of the site, making it possible to share a folder (and thus files) among multiple Websites. Click OK when the "Alias??" and "Physical path" is filled out correctly.

The new virtual folder will now be visible in the Web Site node, just as any physical folder.
