Backup Microsoft SQL Server databases

It is important that you remember to back up your Microsoft® SQL Server® databases. To make this as easy as possible, we will typically the setup of your server, install software on your VPS for this.

We recommend 2 different software - It is available in a free version and in a version that requires a license:

• SqlBackupFree - https://sqlbackupfree.com/ - is free and works well, however this requires that the .NET v2.0 framework is installed on your server (this is no longer standard / default installed on newer Windows servers)
  
  
• SqlBackupAndFTP - https://sqlbackupandftp.com/ - exists in a free version, which has limitations, and a number of versions / licences - choose the one that fits your needs.

Note: You should not store backups of your SQL databases (exclusively) on the server. Your SQL database backup files should be stored in an external location, so that in case a hacker e.g. gain access to your server, that person cannot delete your backup files. We recommend that you use the FTP Backup disk space included with your server to store backups of SQL databases and files. - You yourself are responsible for backing up files and databases on your VPS.
